Solution- Focused Consultations Promoting Positive Equine Welfare and Prioritising Safety For Owners and Vets

I am a fully qualified and insured Equine Behaviour Consultant working in South Suffolk and North Essex who specialises in Cooperative Care training and support alongside veterinarians and owners.

My mission is to offer remedial support when the fear response in a horse has made routine veterinary procedures unsafe and stressful for all, whilst also providing education as to how these techniques can be simply and effectively incorporated into everyday husbandry practise before a problem arises.

I have been fortunate enough to experience this training in everyday husbandry practise with lions, polar bears, brown bears and other animals within a wildlife park setting and feel passionately that this is the approach we in the equine world should be using. To truly witness the difference this training brings to the human-animal relationship is a humbling and enlightening experience.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

I offer workshops, clinic days and one to one sessions demonstrating how effectively these techniques can be incorporated into everyday husbandry and management, equipping you with a set of tools to support in a stressful situation. We will engage your horse in a ‘game’ where they have choice and agency – a key factor in managing stressful situations that can trigger the flight or fight response and encourage their curiosity to flourish with enrichment activities designed to support their nervous system’s response to novel objects and situations.

REMEDIAL SUPPORT & TRAINING

An initial consultation consists of a 2 hour visit and may include some training exercises. Following this, I will create a tailor-made Behaviour Management Plan (BMP) that builds upon understanding what your horse is experiencing through observations, detailed history taking and discussion of current management practices, that will help guide you each step of the way.

My only caveat is that this will always be at the pace of your horse – we do not dictate when they are ready for the next step, they let us know and we pay attention to their communication. However, once trust is built through the training it is often a quicker and smoother process than most owners expect.

I work under veterinary referral and alongside your own vet to support the development of new protocols designed to increase human safety and decrease equine stress.

Initial consultation, BMP and 2 follow up sessions is £120 (travel distance dependent). Further visits and training support are provided at £45 per hour and can be purchased as a package at a reduced rate.‍ ‍
